How to Lighten Skin Permanently

Instructions

1 Visit a dermatologist. A dermatologist is a doctor that specializes in skin care and maintenance. Make an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss your goals. If you have a certain skin tone in mind, search for pictures of individuals who depict this skin tone. This will give your dermatologist a visual example that demonstrates the results you want. Find out what options your dermatologist has available for skin lightening.
2 Head to a plastic surgeon. After you consult with the dermatologist, make a point to go to a plastic surgeon. Show the plastic surgeon the pictures that demonstrate the results you are looking for. Find out what procedures are available and how much they cost.

3 Decide on an option. After meeting with both the dermatologist and plastic surgeon, decide on what procedure you want to go with and who you want to use. Keep in mind that using a plastic surgeon may be slightly more expensive then using a dermatologist. However, the decision boils down to your personal preference and which doctor has produced the best results on other patients.

4  Plan for recovery time. Depending on the procedure you choose, you may need recovery time. For example, a chemical peel or laser treatment may leave you out of commission for a few days to a week. Make arrangements to accommodate your procedure.

5   Use recommended maintenance products. After your procedure is completed, your doctor will recommend products to help with healing and maintenance. Follow your doctor’s directions and do not deviate from them. If you want to make a change, call your doctor and find out if it is okay before you do it. This will prevent complications.

6  Use sunscreen every day. Following your procedure it will be vital that you use SPF every day. Not only will it protect your skin from sunburns but it will also prevent your skin from getting darker. Invest in a sun block that can be worn under makeup or by itself. Enjoy your newly lightened skin!
